What Is IV Drip?

An IV (intravenous) drip is a medical treatment that delivers fluids, medications, or nutrients directly into a patient’s bloodstream through a thin tube called a catheter inserted into a vein. The catheter is typically placed in the arm and connected to a bag containing the prescribed solution. This mixture of nutrients or medication slowly enters the patient’s system at a controlled rate.

An IV drip allows continuous provision of healing substances over an extended period, bypassing the digestive system and ensuring immediate delivery to the bloodstream. The duration of each session can vary significantly depending on the purpose and prescribed solution. Restorative and preventative IV drips usually take 30-45 minutes.

Why Choose IV Therapy Over Oral Supplements?

IV therapy delivers nutrients directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the gastrointestinal system. This ensures maximum absorption, unlike oral supplements, which can lose effectiveness due to poor digestion or low bioavailability. With IV therapy, nutrients are absorbed almost immediately, providing faster, more efficient results to support energy, hydration, and overall health.

How Does IV Drip Work
at Advanced Wellness?

Initial Consultation

Preparation for IV drip therapy begins with a detailed medical consultation to assess the patient’s health status, medical history, and specific needs. During this appointment, our healthcare provider evaluates potential contraindications and determines the appropriate type of IV solution, including essential vitamins, minerals, or hydration fluids. Blood tests or other diagnostic evaluations may be recommended to ensure the treatment is safe and suitable. Patients are also advised to stay hydrated and avoid heavy meals or strenuous activity immediately before the session to optimize comfort and effectiveness during therapy.
The patient reclines in a comfortable treatment chair while our healthcare provider identifies the most suitable vein for insertion. We place a small catheter into the selected vein using advanced techniques to ensure maximum comfort. The carefully prepared nutrient solution begins flowing at a controlled rate, and the patient can relax, read, work on a laptop, or rest during the 30-45-minute session.
Our healthcare professional closely monitors the patient’s response to the treatment. We can adjust the flow rate or address any concerns during the session. This constant supervision ensures maximum safety and comfort, allowing us to achieve optimal results.
Once the infusion is complete, the catheter is gently removed, and a small bandage is applied. Our healthcare provider performs a brief post-treatment assessment to ensure the patient is feeling well and provides guidance on what to expect in the hours following the procedure. We discuss any activity recommendations or restrictions and give valuable tips to maximize the benefits of nutrient IV therapy.

Aftercare

After an IV drip session, it is essential to take a few steps to ensure optimal results and recovery. Patients are encouraged to drink plenty of water to help flush out any excess fluids and maintain hydration. Light activities are recommended. However, avoiding strenuous exercises or heavy lifting for the rest of the day helps prevent discomfort. It is also a good idea to refrain from alcohol for 24 hours to avoid dehydration. Contact our healthcare provider for advice if any concerns or unusual symptoms arise.
