What Is Bioidentical Hormone Therapy?

Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) uses hormones that are chemically identical to those the body naturally produces. It aims to address hormonal deficiencies that develop in most people with age. Bioidentical hormones are typically derived from plant sources, such as yams and soy, and processed in a laboratory to match the molecular structure of natural ones. They can replace or supplement estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. Unlike synthetic hormones, bioidentical treatments are more natural and holistic, mimicking the body’s natural processes and providing impressive results.

First Appointment

The preparation for EvexiPEL® bioidentical hormone therapy begins with a comprehensive medical consultation. During this initial visit, patients undergo testing and discuss their complete medical history, current symptoms, and treatment goals with our healthcare provider. Blood work is crucial in determining hormonal imbalances and establishing a baseline for therapy.

To create a personalized treatment plan, our healthcare provider evaluates various factors, including thyroid function, estrogen, testosterone, and progesterone levels. Patients must also complete a detailed health questionnaire and discuss any current supplements and drugs they are taking. Before pellet insertion, our healthcare provider gives specific instructions regarding medications that may need to be adjusted, particularly blood thinners. After these preparations, we can proceed to the actual procedure.
Pellet Therapy: What to Expect Banner

Pellet Therapy :
What to Expect?

EvexiPEL® therapy optimizes hormonal balance using bioidentical hormone pellets. This minimally invasive treatment improves overall health and quality of life. Below is a breakdown of the three main steps involved in the process.
Step 1: Insertion of Hormone Pellets

Our provider determines the correct hormone dose based on the patient’s age, weight, and other characteristics. Then, they insert the pellets (rice-sized capsules containing hormones) under the skin. This is performed using a minor incision, typically in the hip or buttock area, under local anesthesia. The process takes only 30 seconds for females and 60-90 seconds for males. It is virtually painless. The incision is closed and bandaged for several days.

After insertion, the pellets release a consistent, steady dose of hormones directly into the bloodstream over several months. This method mimics the body’s natural hormone production, eliminating the need for daily medications or treatments.

Additional appointments are scheduled to monitor progress and ensure the therapy works effectively. Our provider may adjust the treatment based on evolving symptoms and follow-up lab results to maintain optimal hormone balance.

How Often Should Hormone
Pellets Be Inserted?

The frequency of pellet insertion depends on the patient’s gender and individual hormone needs. Women typically require new pellets every 3 to 5 months, while men generally need them approximately every 7 months. This schedule ensures a consistent and steady release of hormones, maintaining optimal levels over time. Regular follow-up appointments and monitoring help determine the ideal timing for each individual’s therapy.

FAQs

What Tests Are Needed Before Starting This Program?
Before starting the EvexiPEL® program, patients undergo comprehensive blood testing to evaluate hormone levels, including testosterone, estrogen, and progesterone. Additional assessments often include thyroid function analysis, metabolic markers like glucose and lipids, and liver and kidney function. These tests ensure a clear understanding of the patient’s hormonal and overall health, allowing for a customized and safe treatment plan.
The majority of people with hormone imbalance are great candidates for the therapy. However, our practitioners take an individualized approach based on the patient’s medical history. Individuals with active cancer or severe liver disease should not undergo EvexiPEL® therapy.
Complications from the insertion of pellets may include:
  • Minor bleeding or bruising
  • Discoloration of the skin
  • Extrusion of the pellet

Other complications, besides slight bruising and skin discoloration, are extremely rare. Therefore, there is no need to be concerned.

The most common side effects are increased hair growth and possible skin breakouts with the first round of therapy because the body is getting used to increased oil production in the skin. Patients may want to change their skin care regimen from heavy anti-aging products to lighter, oil-free skin care lines. Side effects can be avoided by decreasing doses during subsequent rounds of therapy.

Some insurance companies cover the cost of pellets, especially for men. Others do not. We help patients check their insurance coverage to see if their expenses will be reimbursed.
