Our skilled team offers chiropractic care, spinal decompression, physical therapy, and many other treatments to address the root causes of back pain. With a holistic, interprofessional approach, we can help each patient become healthier and live their life to the fullest.
Deformities in the spine may cause a lot of discomfort and affect people’s quality of quality. Therefore, it is crucial to address this problem as early as possible. We offer a wide range of back pain treatment options:
Chiropractic care can be an effective way to address back pain without surgery or medications. Our specialists use hands-on spinal manipulation and other techniques to adjust the spine and restore mobility to vertebrae that may be out of alignment. This helps to relieve pressure on the affected nerves. Chiropractic adjustments can be helpful for reducing lower back pain caused by strains, injuries, herniated (bulging) discs, and other problems. We also recommend exercises, stretches, hot/cold therapies, and lifestyle changes to help prevent future back pain episodes. Many people find relief from their symptoms with just a few chiropractic treatments, while others may need longer-term care to address chronic issues.
Spinal decompression is a non-surgical therapy for back pain associated with herniated or degenerative discs. It involves gently stretching the spine to relieve pressure on the discs and nerve roots. During a spinal decompression session, the patient lies on a specialized table and is fitted with a harness that is attached via cables to a computer-controlled device. The table and harness then gently stretch the spine through varying angles and weights, creating negative pressure in the discs, which can draw bulging disc material back into place. This relieves inflammation and pressure on the nerves. Each spinal decompression session usually lasts less than 30 minutes. Multiple procedures are typically needed for optimal results.
An orthopedist can offer many pain treatment options that do not require surgery, including rest, heat/cold therapy, medication, physical therapy, injections, and bracing. Rest is often recommended to give the back time to heal without further irritation or injury. Applying heat helps relax muscles while icing reduces inflammation - our pain specialists may recommend alternating between the two. Medications like NSAIDs or muscle relaxants can ease discomfort, while steroid injections directly into the spine provide localized relief. Braces, custom shoe inserts, or walking aids may also be prescribed to improve posture, take pressure off the back, and enable increased mobility.
Physical therapy is one of the best ways to reduce back pain and improve mobility. Our specialist evaluates the cause of discomfort and designs a customized treatment plan. Common techniques used in physical therapy for back pain include stretches and exercises to improve flexibility and range of motion, manual therapy techniques like massage or joint mobilization, and education about proper movement mechanics and posture. The goal of physical therapy is to reduce pain in the back, improve functional ability, and teach the patient how to manage their condition independently. In this way, we can address the main symptoms without drugs or spine surgery. Physical therapy is a highly effective treatment for back pain management.
Occupational therapy can help people with back pain return to their daily activities and jobs. Our specialists evaluate how the aches impact the patient's ability to perform regular tasks, such as getting dressed, making meals, or working. They may recommend assistive devices like reachers and dressing sticks to make activities easier. We also teach proper body mechanics for lifting, sitting, and standing to prevent further injury. Our back pain doctors might use massages and relaxation training to manage acute or chronic pain. The goal is to help the person function as independently as possible.
Acupuncture is increasingly being used as an alternative treatment for back pain. It involves inserting very thin needles into specific points on the body to stimulate nerves and muscles. Acupuncture can be effective at reducing chronic low back pain. It works by enhancing the activity of painkilling chemicals, such as endorphins, and immune system cells at specific sites in the body. The needles also stimulate blood circulation, which may reduce inflammation. As part of a comprehensive treatment plan, acupuncture can provide sustained back pain relief without medication.
The recovery process following back pain treatment varies depending on the type of therapy used. People often feel relief for minor muscle strains or sprains within a few days to weeks. Recovery from physical therapy may involve exercises at home to rebuild strength and flexibility. Patients start experiencing less pain and better mobility within 2-4 weeks of such treatment.
Recovery after chiropractic care requires some time for the spine and muscular system to heal and adjust. People usually feel the results after just a few sessions, with continued improvements for several weeks after treatment ends. Patients are encouraged to make lifestyle changes during recovery, like improving posture, stretching, and exercising more. Our pain doctor will provide detailed recommendations to sustain spinal health and prevent the reoccurrence of back pain.
