Our expert providers use the ALCAT test to measure food sensitivity. This test can tell you which foods are your ‘meat’ and which are your ‘poison.’ It is not a substitute for medical care, but it can be beneficial if followed and incorporated into a healthy lifestyle and as an aid in disease prevention. If a medical condition exists, the ALCAT test is helpful when used in conjunction with the advice of a qualified healthcare practitioner.
Our bodies can react to foods and chemicals in various ways, including an immediate allergic reaction. However, the ALCAT test does not detect immediate food allergies, also known as “true” or IgE-mediated allergies. If you already know of this type of allergy, it is essential to continue avoiding those foods, even if they appear on your “acceptable” list after testing.
The ALCAT test, on the other hand, is designed to identify food and chemical sensitivities, where symptoms tend to develop more gradually, over several hours or even days. These sensitivities are common and can contribute to chronic conditions, affecting a significant portion of the population.
Food sensitivity testing through ALCAT involves a systematic approach to identify specific food and chemical reactions. The process typically begins with an initial consult where a healthcare professional evaluates the patient’s medical history, symptoms, and concerns to understand the best approach for testing. The procedure is non-invasive and primarily involves blood testing to assess the body’s response to various allergens.
Before scheduling the ALCAT test, an initial consultation is conducted to gather important medical information. This meeting helps our healthcare providers understand any pre-existing conditions or concerns the patient may have regarding food sensitivities. Factors like the patient’s diet, lifestyle, and chronic symptoms are considered during this appointment to ensure the most accurate and beneficial testing process.
Once the initial consult is complete, we schedule a time for the ALCAT test. Patients are guided through the process during this phase, and any necessary preparations are explained. Support is offered to answer questions and alleviate concerns about the upcoming procedure. The test involves phlebotomy, which is the collection of a blood sample for analysis.
Phlebotomy is the main procedure used in food sensitivity testing. Our healthcare professional draws blood from a vein, typically in the arm, to collect the necessary sample. This process is relatively quick and involves minimal discomfort. Blood is analyzed to determine the body’s response to various allergens, such as specific foods, chemicals, and other environmental factors. The results help create a detailed profile of the sensitivities affecting the patient.
After the blood sample is collected, it is sent to a laboratory where it is tested for sensitivities to different allergens. The analysis identifies substances that trigger inflammatory responses that indicate food or chemical intolerances. The results are then presented to the patient, who can use the findings to adjust their diet and lifestyle to avoid problematic allergens.
Following the procedure, patients are guided to understand their results and make necessary changes. Sometimes, lifestyle modifications or dietary adjustments are recommended to help alleviate symptoms associated with food sensitivities. If any concerns or complications arise, our healthcare providers are available to offer guidance and ensure the patient’s well-being throughout the process.

Food sensitivities can contribute to many symptoms, including bloating, fatigue, headaches, joint pain, skin issues, mood disturbances, and difficulty losing weight. These symptoms often appear gradually and can be hard to trace without proper testing.
In many cases, yes. While coverage may vary depending on your provider and plan, our administrative team will work with you to verify any insurance benefits before your test is scheduled.
Yes. There’s no need to eliminate any foods from your diet before testing unless instructed otherwise by your provider. Eating your usual meals can help the test more accurately reflect your sensitivities.
An elimination diet can be helpful, but it is often time-consuming and challenging to do accurately without guidance. The ALCAT test provides a scientific analysis of your blood response to specific substances, offering a much faster and more reliable way to identify problem foods.
After reviewing your results with our provider, you’ll receive personalized recommendations for dietary and lifestyle changes. Ongoing support is available to help you make those changes gradually and effectively.
Yes. The test is suitable for children, particularly those with unexplained digestive issues, behavioral concerns, or skin conditions. Pediatric testing should be discussed with your child’s healthcare provider.
While food sensitivities don’t directly cause infections, they can weaken the immune system over time by contributing to chronic inflammation. Identifying and avoiding these triggers through testing may help reduce the overall inflammatory burden on your body, potentially improving immune function and lowering your susceptibility to recurring infections.
The success of food sensitivity testing depends on your commitment to applying the results. For many patients, the turning point comes when they begin following a targeted elimination plan based on their test results. This personalized approach can lead to noticeable improvements in digestion, energy, skin health, and even mood, especially when combined with professional guidance and long-term lifestyle adjustments.
